What is Softwave Therapy?

SoftWave Therapy is a non-surgical, non-invasive regenerative treatment for soft tissue, bone, heel, and joint pain. It uses advanced technology that delivers short, frequent, high-intensity bursts of mechanical energy—known as shockwaves—into injured or inflamed tissue. These shockwaves help break down damaged areas and stimulate the body’s natural healing process by activating your own stem cells.

Is this type of treatment new?

No. It is the standard of care for soft tissue injuries in Europe and has been a non-surgical option in the U.S. for over 20 years.

Is it FDA approved?

Yes. SoftWave Technologies are FDA 510(k) cleared for: Activation of connective tissue, treatment of chronic diabetic foot ulcers and treatment of acute second-degree burns as well as pain reduction and improved blood supply.

What is its intended use?

Is it painful?

There may be mild discomfort, but patients typically don’t complain of pain during treatment. You may feel an increase of intensity over damaged tissue, however, that is simply a sign of where the primary issues are.

Is the treatment covered by insurance?

At this time, insurance does not pay for this treatment.

How long is the treatment?

Anywhere from 5-15 minutes. Can be longer though if we are working on several areas that require more treatment.

What is involved in the procedure?

A conductive gel is applied to the treatment area, and the SoftWave applicator is gently placed on your skin. You’ll hear a series of clicking sounds as the device is moved around. The clinician will communicate with you throughout to identify areas of discomfort and monitor progress.

Can I continue to take over-the-counter pain medications?

It’s best to avoid non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) such as ibuprofen, Advil, or Aleve during your course of SoftWave Therapy, as they may interfere with the body’s healing process. However, if absolutely necessary, they can be taken in moderation.

Why consider Softwave Therapy?

SoftWave Therapy provides a highly effective, non-invasive alternative to surgery and pharmaceuticals—without the risks, complications, or downtime. Treatments are performed in-office, require no anesthesia, and have little to no side effects. Most importantly, they help stimulate true healing rather than simply masking symptoms.
